PFM’s solutions

Lines dedicated to wet wipes flexible packaging

High average production capacity: obtained thanks to independent multi-conveyor line loading units, to the Long Dwell sealing system, which ensures air-tight seals at high revolution rates, to the high performance hardware and to its software which is the result of many years of research and experience.

Air-tight seals: thanks to the Long Dwell sealing system (patented by PFM) that given the same pressure and temperature increases the sealing time, compared to traditional systems.

Appealing packages: experience makes perfect. The forming tube treats the film delicately and with precision while the sealing systems are correctly positioned: all this makes for perfect, crease-free flow-wrap packages.

High operating flexibility: the same automatic feeding and packaging line by PFM can produce the disposal wet wipe pack and the family pack. Any component can be adjusted, is easily accessed and user-friendly.

Fast and easy cleaning: the horizontal flow-pack machines dedicated to this sector have the “film feeding from the bottom” feature. This prevents the sealing units that are located in the top position from coming into contact with the product or the liquid that may seep out. In addition to that, the lines were designed with a cantilever construction approach. This particular construction system allows a strict partition between the front and the back parts of the machine. On the front part there are only the sealing units and the product handling units, whereas on the back of the machine, in separated and protected environments, there are the mechanical and electronic components. The front part is free from any obstacle and can be quickly and easily cleaned.

Perfect integration: PFM packaging machines dedicated to the wet wipe packaging sector can be perfectly integrated with automatic labelling machines and cap application and closing systems, also automated.

NEW BRAND IDENTITY: FROM THE ORIGINS TO THE FUTURE

January 2016. PFM Packaging Machinery, the industrial group that manufactures flexible packaging machines and technology, presents its new logo.

Created by Heinz Weibl, an internationally renowned designer, the logo not only represents the company graphically, but also tells its story. Starting from the origins, it recalls the historical design of the first logo created by the founder of the company, Pietro Fioravanti, and leads up to today, expressing the main values of the company and projecting it into the future.

Stability, power, balance, essentialism, and clearness are all communicated by Helvetica, a clean, simple font without frills or virtuosity, conveying a timeless clarity that is further enhanced by Weibl’s colour choice of midnight blue.

“After our first 50 years, and along with the process of continual transformation,” said Andrea Fioravanti, “we strongly felt the need to confirm our deep identity to international markets. Only a decisive action, such as the radical change of corporate branding, can express what we feel ourselves to be, and above all can give an idea of how we want to approach the future. I believe this update fully reflects what PFM does for its clients: it offers reliability that comes from half a century of work in the packaging sector; it maintains transparency in all relations; it simplifies complexity by designing truly technological solutions. This is not all, however. Our industrial group looks towards the future without distractions, intent on anticipating the request for flexible packaging. It is a concept that Heinz Weibl majestically represents with the F of our acronym that stands erect, like a lighthouse showing the way.”

And we take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

PFM designed and produced a complete line to feed and pack beef sausage rolls for a famous Nigerian bakery. The customer requirement was to flowrap single beef sausage rolls arriving in rows from the cooling tunnel. Minimum output required was 40,000 individually wrapped products per hour.

PFM’s Solution

PFM offered the client two wrapping lines, each consisting of 4 horizontal wrappers model PFM Falcon HS complete with automatic feeding systems. Should one of the 3 main wrapping machines stop, the product is diverted onto a collection belt which sends it to the feeding system of the fourth wrapping machine, which is usually in a stand-by position.

PFM can reach extremely high packaging speeds by continuously feeding 3 wrapping machines + 1, while successfully dealing with any slow down due to stoppages, even for routine maintenance operations.

The Industrial Group closed the year with a consolidated turnover of 86 million Euro, an 8% increase on the previous year, and also net improvements in occupation, which for the company meant adding 20 new employees to its workforce.

The positive scenario is completed by significant investments in Technical Research and Development, the heartbeat of the company. Carried out in a new area of more than 2000 square metres, it has led to the design and production of cutting-edge applications for the PFM horizontal flow-wrapping machines, the PFM vertical form fill seal wrappers with MBP multi-head weighers and the SPS automatic conveying and packaging lines.

“It’s an important result,” confirms Paolo Fioravanti, the Group’s General Director, “obtained thanks to everyone’s work. 2014 closed at full speed with positive effects on the first two months of 2015, showing higher growth indexes than those of the same period last year”. “We will, even this year,” continues Andrea Fioravanti, Sales and R&D Director “invest in the product and in cutting-edge technology, a choice that has proved us right and which will guarantee the future growth of the PFM Group”.

SPS Complete Line for the Distribution and Packaging of Baked Products

SPS Italiana Pack Systems (PFM Group) has manufactured a complete system with two feeding and wrapping lines for soft chocolate coated, baked products.
The customer is the second largest food producer in Turkey, an owner of renowned brands in the sweet and confectionery market and is considered to be one of the top 100 companies in the world in this sector.

The Requirement was to wrap two different products, arriving in rows from the processing line and cooled down to 18° C: chocolate coated sweet snacks and soft doughnuts.

THE SOLUTION

SPS fully satisfied the customer’s requirements by designing a system consisting of a twin leg packaging solution comprising of distribution stations with buffer re-feed on the second leg and two SPS REGOLA wrapping machines.
This solution successfully reaches very high productivity rates even with delicate products, eliminating missed production or speed drops, thanks to the special system that recoups any stand-by rows.

PFM has supplied the COMPACT – a horizontal wrapping machine that operates like an intermittent vertical form fill seal machine – to a renowned Italian agricultural cooperative which sells frozen vegetables, tomato purees and sauces, fruit juices and syrups wholesale and to end users.

The requirements was to wrap the asparagus in a tight pack format with all the tips facing the same direction whilst maintain control of the product and prevent slippage during the wrapping process as can happen with traditional horizontal wrapping machines.

With this PFM Compact line PFM achieved all the customer’s requirements: tight pack, product quality maintained, high line performance without stoppages, quick format change over, hygienic system construction to speed up the cleaning process and high speed wrapping.

PFM has designed and produced a high-speed automatic packaging line for moulded soap bars wrapped individually and packaged in pre-cut chains for the Thai operation of a well-known American multinational that manufactures and distributes hygiene and body care products throughout the world.

Our goal was a feed and packaging line that achieves packaging speeds of 400 ppm. The line had first and foremost to be able to package the product and discharge it in “chains” of sealed bags composed of a programmable number of packs (from 2 to 12 pcs, typically 6 pcs) joined together but which also featured perforations (pre-cut) so they could also easily be separated.
The option of switching over to individual packaging of the product by simply pressing a push button on the packaging machine was also required.

400 soap bars flow-packed a minute on a single packaging machine is a very impressive result, which PFM has achieved by applying the special Long Dwell Rotary sealing system. This has enabled the company to successfully install dozens of similar lines all over the world and to gain a significant share of this market segment thereby strengthening the position of its brand in the industry.

Are your cereal snacks too crumbly? No problem with PFM in feed and flow wrapping systems.

For a well-known Italian company that produces and exports organic extruded cereal snacks worldwide, PFM have designed and produced a complete dedicated high-speed feeding and packing line for 2 very different types of product: cocoa–filled rice biscuits and maize crackers. The most important characteristic to bear in mind was the extremely fragile/crumbly nature of these goods.

The PFM line is equipped with a feeder system that can be set for a pre-determined configuration and arrangement of products inside the pack. This innovative system together with the versatility of the PFM FALCON HS has enabled PFM to meet the requirements of flow-wrapping multi-products on a single line.
