PFM Quality

It is 2002 when PFM Packaging Machinery SpA, the headquarters of the PFM Group, is certified ISO 9001-2000, later becoming ISO 9001:2015, by DNV, one of the most accredited certification bodies in the world.

An ambitious achievement and, at the same time, the starting point of hard and constant work to improve processes in pursuit of the company’s foremost goal: maximum customer satisfaction, expressed in terms of both product and service.

The ISO 9001:2015 system is used at PFM to manage the quality of all processes within the company’s organisation: from defining customer requirements to design, machine assembly and testing, and on-site customer support.

All phases of the organisational processes are coordinated and managed by a team of professionals who benefit from ongoing training and use cutting-edge tools. Product design, carried out by a multidisciplinary technical department, is performed with structural analysis and three-dimensional design software; machine assembly and testing are carried out with the utmost care to facilitate the work of the service department as much as possible, present daily around the world with dozens of specialised travelling technicians.

Between 2009 and 2013, the complete computerisation of the quality system made it possible to obtain absolutely precise and timely feedback on individual processes, thus enabling targeted and continuous improvement of both internal and external process phases. In particular, PFM demands the utmost from its suppliers in terms of collaboration, quality and respect for delivery times, with a view to offering customers increasing levels of reliability and compliance with defined contractual requirements.

From 2014 to today, PFM has worked to establish processes linked to risk assessment, considered strategic for all business areas, anticipating the requirements set out in ISO 9001:2015, to the point of expressing this concept within its quality policy. This is a constantly evolving path that has led to the implementation of ongoing risk-prevention actions, useful in avoiding the occurrence of consequent anomalies.

Our goal is continuous improvement for maximum customer satisfaction: to achieve it, we need to establish an ongoing collaborative relationship with the customer, involving them in all process phases so that together we create not only reliable, high-performing packaging machines or plants, but the added value that makes us competitive on the market.

Quality as a system

During 2024, 518 quality checks were carried out, particularly during the testing and inspection phases of machines built to order. These checks included, for example, validating the correct configuration of the packaging systems, checking the efficiency of packaging operations, testing the resistance of mechanical and electronic components, and inspecting operational safety functions. These structured processes ensure compliance with the customer’s technical requirements, regulatory standards and our internal procedures, guaranteeing the high quality of the final product and the protection of the user.

All machines produced by the Group’s companies are designed and manufactured in full compliance with the regulations in force in the countries where they are marketed (for example, the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC in the European Union, UL 508A, Standard for Industrial Control Panels for the United States, CSA Z432-04, Safeguarding of Machinery for Canada). In addition, for operational sites located within European territory, each product is assessed according to the FCM (Food Contact Materials) criteria, ensuring compliance with the safety and hygiene requirements necessary for food use, protecting the health of consumers and the target market.
